Why Files

"In existence since 1996, The Why Files, the science behind the news, supported by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is an award-winning, informative, educational, and entertaining Web site that looks at the science behind the headlines. Unlike many instantaneous news sites, The Why Files, through its In the News articles, takes an in-depth, well-researched approach to analyzing issues pertaining to science, math, technology, health, and the environment. Color photographs, graphs, or maps may be used to assist in explaining a topic. Stories always include bibliographies and credits for researchers and the author. New items appear weekly and will be helpful when students need to locate research for argumentative essays. Topics cover a wide range of areas, including autism, the tar sands of Canada, earthquakes, and nuclear weapons." Ranked as one of the 2010 Outstanding Websites by Choice Magazine, October.
